Channing Channel - August 2026

Brotherhood at Channing isn’t about matching flannel shirts or secret handshakes. It’s about the everyday ways we look out for each other —the small, practical kindnesses that say, “Hey, I’ve got your back,” even when nobody’s keeping score. Around here, brotherhood looks like picking up sticks and branches ahead of the person on the lawn mower, because nothing says “I care about you” like preventing a surprise projectile from launching across the yard. It’s stepping in to cover the pianist, the Zoom Czar, the Speaker, or the Liturgist when life throws someone a curveball. It’s the quiet heroism of saying, “Sure, I can do that,” even when you weren’t planning on doing anything except sipping your coffee and minding your own business. Brotherhood is the art of helping with what someone else usually does, not because you’re trying to earn a merit badge, but because you noticed a gap and thought, “Well, I can fill that.” It’s the sacred tradition of showing up, pitching in, and occasionally learning a new skill you never expected — like how to run Zoom without accidentally muting the entire congregation. And the best part? None of this requires being a man. Brotherhood at Channing is a community practice, a shared spirit, away of living that says, “We’re in this together.” It’s for every gender, every age, every person who believes that kindness is better when it’s shared. So this August, we celebrate brotherhood in its truest form: the branch pickers, the fill-ins, the helpers, the “sure, I’ll do it” folks, the ones who make Channing feel like home.
