Which I suppose is actually in line with the history of it. Beltane marks the midpoint between the Spring Equinox and the Summer Solstice, and is often celebrated in April or early May, and was celebrated as the start of a new year within pagan communities. Of course, as more and more communities converted to Christianity over time, it started being seen more as a yokel holiday. "Those silly people in that small village, they don't even know when the year really starts and ends!" So an 'April Fool' was somebody who still followed old traditions, instead of converting to the new "more civilized" calendar. Eventually, it was separated from the pagan celebrations almost entirely, and became a holiday for minor mischief, and was set on April 1st. For more click HERE.
